The difference between school and college

If you are thinking of continuing your education you can attend a school sixth form, go to a sixth form college or further education college.

If you stay in your school's sixth form you will have the security of staying in a familiar environment with the teachers and tutors that you already know.  You may need to transfer to a school with a sixth form to attend the course that interests you so you may not have the benefits of familiar surroundings.

Sixth form colleges and further education colleges have a more informal environment than school sixth forms because they are generally bigger and able to offer you a wider range of options.  Training providers offer similar courses too, offering an alternative route to further education.

Work-based learning is another opportunity open to you. Work-based learning allows you to get paid and gain qualifications whilst you are getting experience and learning new skills in a working environment.

Choosing one learning provider over another can be difficult.  You can make this decision easier by finding out which ones offer the course you are interested in.
