Difference between school and college

After completing year 11 you might be thinking of continuing your education by staying on in a school sixth form or going to a college.

If you stay in your school's sixth form you will have the security of staying in a familiar environment with the teachers and tutors that you already know.

Sixth form colleges and further education colleges have a more informal environment than school sixth forms because they are generally bigger and able to offer you a wider range of options.  Training providers offer similar courses too, offering an alternative route to further education.

If you decide on home education your family will also take over the financial responsibility for your education, including educational materials, exam fees etc.  For more information visit www.heas.org.uk

Work-based learning or an Apprenticeship is another opportunity open to you. Work-based learning allows you to get paid and gain qualifications whilst you are getting experience and learning new skills in a working environment.

Choosing one learning provider over another can be difficult.  You can make this decision easier by finding out which ones offer the course you are interested in.
